Horseback Riding for the highest pics of the Andes, getting to the Valley of river Tunuyán, where is the shelter "Real de la Cruz".  
The principal characteristic of this horse riding is the altitud that we have to overcome with the objetive to arrive in "Valley of river Tunuyán", place where is located the shelter "Real de la Cruz".

 

Services included:

  • Reception in Mendoza City.
  • Transfer from Mendoza (round trip).
  • Accommodation in tents (igloo shape, for 2 or 3 people).
  • Mountain horses, tame, with comfortable saddles: "apero criollo".
  • Transport of the equipment on mules. Up to 8 Kg. per person.
  • Saddle bags.
  • All meals and drinks during the riding expedition.
  • Professional mountain guide and muleteers. English speaking guide.
  • Complete camping equipment.
  • First Aid equipment.
  • Satellite phone (in case of emergency).

Itinerary:

Day 1: Manzano Histórico / Mendoza - Horseback riding
In the morning the expedition begins with a meeting during which you will get to know the members of the trip. Then we will drive in a private vehicle towards the “Manzano Histórico” (1:30 hs.), located in the “Valle de Uco”. Reception and presentation of guides and local muleteers, that will be part of this spectacular expedition on horseback.
At dusk we arrive at the camp “Real de la Mula Muerta”, where we will warm us up around the campfire and eat the "asado". We spend the night under the stars or in tents.

Day 2: Horseback riding
Breakfast and enlistment of the horses to follow our route. This day we are going to climb to the "Portillo Argentino", rising to 4380 m. The mules help us to carry all the luggage. It is a pair of hours uphill riding, with the reward of an astonishing view of the Andes and the border with Chile. 
Then it is a 5 hours plus riding (mostly in a downhill trail) to the valley of the Tunuyan River, where is the mountain shelter "Refugio Real de la Cruz". This rock shelter belonging to the Argentine Army is used by adventurers, porters and mountaineers. We spend the night here and enjoy a dinner that will surely be energizing adorned by the experiences of this day for adventure. 
The evening may offer some songs and stories, since the refuge is a meeting point for muleteers and travelers.
This will be the longest day on a horse (8 hours approx.).

Day 3: Horseback riding
The third day is for rest. They may choose to stay near the shelter or make a trek of recognition accompanied by the guide, identifying flora and fauna. 
Dinner and overnight at “Refugio Real de la Cruz”.

Day 4: Horseback riding - Manzano Histórico / Mendoza
Today will be our last day on horseback. We ride, enjoying the last views of the inside of the Andes until “Manzano Histórico”, our final destination in the afternoon. From there, transfer to Mendoza by private vehicle and end of one of the most exciting adventure the Andes can offer us.
